I love going to the movies, especially with family and friends. Getting to escape the weight of reality for a couple of hours, and the enjoyment of seeing the creativity and imagination come to life. It truly is one of my favorite pass-times. I still remember my excitement as a child; the wishful daydreams I would have from seeing a version of myself reflected back on the big screen, and getting lost in the fascinating journey of being the hero...
By using a global platform through his Black Panther performance, Boseman elevated stories of black people, and showed us just how much black voices and perspectives matter.
I've chosen to honor Chadwick Boseman’s memory through this piece, because off-screen, he chose quiet dignity, strength, and perseverance to be an example that I personally strive toward. On-screen, he made incredible strides in changing how black children see a superhero and how they see themselves. And I believe every child deserves to get lost in their own wishful daydreams and fascinating journeys on the big screen.
Representation truly does matter.
